I added the workaround I just found to the UESP.net wiki :)

If you choose to accept Harkon’s gift, you may die when he bites you and be forced to go back to your last save. (Workaround: Before talking to Lord Harkon, set the quest stage to 180. Follow Harkon and talk to him; he will say that you have forsaken his gift, but will offer it to you

Linden Labs fails at coding and fixing their bugs.

It saddens me to see that Linden Labs keeps implementing features which contains huge and obvious usability issues and/or bugs, even when proper jira entries are filled.
While I understand that some bugs can not be reproduced, Linden Labs seems to work the other way around:

1- They fix minor bugs that are targetting specific users in specific situations
2- They leaves huge monstrous and annoying bugs that …
